Position summary

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Supports and working in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and Communication Specialist, the Health Communicator will assist with the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of a communication and social media strategy. The Health Communicator creates, edits, and coordinates clear communication about Northeastern Public Health (NEPH) and public health messages across all media channels with a specific focus on social media and the website.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in communications, health promotion, graphic design, public relations, or related field; in health sciences, Epidemiology, data analysis, or statistics, or related degree; 
  • Three years' experience working in communications, health promotion, graphic design, web design;
  • Experience with, but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and other emerging media channels;
  • Knowledge of best practices related to communication, public relations, social marketing, and health communications;
  • Knowledge and experience working within AODA accessibility standards;
  • Knowledge and understanding of health promotion theories and principles;
  • Ability to deliver high-quality written materials and presentations for diverse audiences;
  • Highly proficient in using Microsoft Office, the Internet, and websites;
  • Possess a basic set of design skills and ability to use Adobe, Canva, or other design software;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
  • Fluency in both official languages is required;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Reference and Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to meet program needs.
  • Required to comply with Immunization policies, including COVID-19 vaccination unless a valid medical exemption is provided.
