Position summary

Northeastern Public Health (NEPH) is seeking applications from registered nurses with a nursing degree who are interested in applying their nursing knowledge and skills to promote, protect, and preserve the health of populations at the individual/family, community, and system level. Under the direction and in consultation with the Program Manager, the Program Coordinator assists with planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of services within assigned program areas in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards and NEPH program policies. 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • BScN or equivalent degree
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
  • Possess a minimum of three years of experience as a public health nurse
  • Experience in developing quality assurance policies and procedures considered an asset
  • Proven leadership and committee experience
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and current developments within specific discipline/program
  • Self-directed learner/worker who requires minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Fluency in both official languages considered an asset
  • Knowledge of acute and/or chronic problematic substance use
  • Must be willing and able to participate in outreach services, including being able to walk on uneven terrain, for several kms, in diverse weather conditions.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience of Hepatitis C and HIV testing initiatives (including phlebotomy), substance use, mental health, crisis support, and episodic overdose prevention.
  • Travel to communities within the Northeastern Public Health region required.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid Ontario Driver’s license
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal background check
  • Compliance with NEPH immunization policies, including COVID-19 vaccination; unless a valid medical exemption is provided.
